Canadian Tire Partners with Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services Supporting Military Families to Live Healthy, Active Lifestyles

Equipment Donation to be Celebrated with Six Base Tour During Canadian Armed Forces Recreation Month

TORONTO, June 13, 2016 /CNW/ - As part of a $300,000 commitment, Canadian Tire will embark on a military base tour in support of Canadian Armed Forces Recreation Month. Canadian Tire is proud to support Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) families and strives to make a meaningful difference in their lives. Through the donation of gift cards and sporting equipment, and working with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities to develop community programming, the Corporation helps families living on base spend quality, active time together.

To celebrate the ongoing commitment to Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services, Canadian Tire will participate in six military base events including: Greenwood, NS (June 13), Gagetown, NB (June 14), Valcartier, QB (June 17), Winnipeg, MB (June 24),Ottawa, ON (July 18) and Kingston, ON (October 20). Canadian Tire has engaged the support of world-class athletes to amplify the on-site event experience for the local communities.

"At Canadian Tire, we are honoured to contribute another year to the military community to help members and their families spend quality, active time together," said Pat McEleney, Vice President of Partnerships at Canadian Tire Corporation. "We are proud of our ongoing relationship with the Canadian Armed Forces and being able to help support Recreation Month, through gift cards and equipment donations. We believe that sport brings families together, ignites a shared passion within communities and helps define who we are as Canadians."

Canadian Tire is a long-time champion of the CAF supporting initiatives including the Canadian Armed Forces Sports Awards and the Soldier On program, which helps retired and serving members with an illness or injury adopt an active lifestyle through participation in physical, recreation or sporting activities. The three-year commitment with Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services includes $300,000 in gift card and sporting equipment donations across every military base in Canada, to help military families living on base get active. In 2015, 33 CAF Bases across nine provinces and one territory were signed on as Jumpstart Community Partners. The partnership serves as another way Canadian Tire supports Canadians getting active in the community, providing military families the resources required to live active, healthy lifestyles.

"We welcome the generous donation of sports and recreation equipment from Canadian Tire which benefit military members and their families. Recreation, leisure and sport help military members stay physically fit and mentally healthy, while increasing overall unit morale and workplace efficiency," explains Commodore Mark Watson, Director General Morale and Welfare Services.
