Meet Canada's Sports Hall of Fame's Class of 2014
TORONTO, Oct. 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Eight of the country's most influential and inspiring athletes and sport builders will be officially inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame on October 22, 2014. Media are invited to meet the Class of 2014 at 10:00 a.m. EST and attend the Honoured Members Red Carpet Reception at 4:30 p.m. EST, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in downtown Toronto, prior to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame 2014 Induction Celebrations presented by Canadian Tire.
Induction into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame is the highest sporting honour in Canada. The Class of 2014 consists of:
- Ski jumping champion, Horst Bulau
- Hero of the Superpipe event, Sarah Burke
- Dual sport champion, Pierre Harvey
- Women's hockey innovator, Geraldine Heaney
- Figure skating golden girl, Elizabeth Manley
- Canadian rugby legend, Gareth Rees
- Wheelchair basketball pioneer, Tim Frick
- Legendary basketball coach, Kathy Shields
Inducted athletes and sport builders will be available for interview immediately following the media conference. Master of ceremonies for the media conference will be Canada's Sports Hall of Fame Honoured Member Catriona Le May Doan.
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame Honoured Member George Chuvalo will also be in attendance to accept the donation of the original "Fight Night" boxing ring bell of the former Maple Leaf Gardens on behalf of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. This was the bell George Chuvalo answered 15 times on the night of March 29, 1966, against Muhammad Ali. George Chuvalo will be available for interviews.
