Camping is all the rage this summer!
Survey commissioned by Coleman Canada and Canadian Tire indicates that 46 per cent of Canadians are considering camping trips and "staycations" as economical holiday optionsTORONTO, June 24 /CNW/ - Canadians are trading in their pricey boarding passes and hotel suites for tents, lanterns and sleeping bags this summer. An Angus Reid survey commissioned by Coleman Canada and Canadian Tire indicates that 46 per cent of Canadians are considering camping or "staycations" - day trips close to home - to save money on their summer holiday this year. "Eighty-nine per cent of Canadians, almost 9 in 10, have been camping at least once in their lives - making camping one of Canada's most popular outdoor activities," says Pat Gray, director of marketing, Coleman Canada. "When you're strapped for cash but still want to get away, camping trips and short day-trips are an affordable alternative. It's a great way to enjoy the beauty of your city or town, explore Canada's natural wilderness and reconnect with family and friends."Vacationing for Less --------------------After the initial cost of gearing up with the proper equipment, a weekend camping trip for a family of four can cost less than $500 - including gas, food and campsite fees. Also, it's important to remember that the cost of essential camping gear, such as tents and coolers, is an initial investment and once made, will allow families to enjoy camping and other outdoor activities for years to come. "Over 85 per cent of all Canadians live within a 15-minute drive of a Canadian Tire store, so it's no surprise that almost half of all Canadians come to Canadian Tire to outfit their outdoor activities and camping adventures," says Lisa Gibson, associate VP of media and public relations, Canadian Tire. "Canadian Tire offers an assortment of affordable, innovative and comfortable products that meet the needs of all families."Get Outside! ------------"With 24 per cent of Canadians citing hiking and 22 per cent citing swimming as their favourite outdoor summer activities, why not get off the couch and join in the fun - take in a day at the beach or weekend in the woods," continues Gray.
