"Let's encourage upcoming Quebec City talent with a Reel Festival - A rod and reel festival!" - Patrick Campeau, Canadian Tire Spokesperson for Pêche en herbe

QUEBEC CITY, May 29 /CNW Telbec/ - Renowned professional angler and
outdoorsman Patrick Campeau is taking part in a Pêche en herbe activity
together with a class of 8 to 14 year olds with whom he'll be sharing some of
his best fishing tips. The kids will be introduced to fishing on May 29, at
Parc Chauveau, as hundreds of trout are released into the Saint Charles River,
near the footbridge. The activity is being organized by Pêche en ville, a very
active non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the Saint
Charles River-just one of the organizations supported by the Pêche en herbe
program in the Québec City Region.
Canadian Tire, official sponsor of the Fondation de la faune du Québec's
Pêche en herbe program, wants to make this activity even more fun for kids by
rolling out a red carpet (just like at a regular film fest) and having them
take part in a professional photo session were they can try on feather boas
and top hats. "We want this first day of learning to fish to be one of their
best memories, and I'm very proud to be part of this event here in Québec
City," said Patrick Campeau, Canadian Tire Spokesperson for Pêche en herbe.
"It's sort of like a practice day for next weekend's Fête de la pêche fishing
festival, when they'll be able to show their parents and friends what they
learned on waterways across Québec, without having to get a fishing license. I
hope a lot of them will take advantage of it. It only happens once a year."
"Since 1999, Canadian Tire has generously sponsored Fondation de la faune
du Québec's Pêche en herbe program and supported its goal of encouraging young
anglers. No fewer than 130,000 kids have been introduced to the joys of
fishing since the start of the program, and we are very proud of that,"
explained Benoit Dufour, Canadian Tire associate dealer in Les Saules on
behalf of his fellow dealers in the Quebec City Region. "The program also
encourages respect for nature and the rules of water safety. It's never too
early to teach kids about these things. They're the very basis of fishing!"
