Canadian Tire retains GENCO Distribution System to operate its new distribution centre in Coteau-du-Lac Quebec

1.5 million square foot facility set to open in early 2009

TORONTO, June 12 /CNW/ - Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited, today
announced that it proposes to retain GENCO Distribution System of Canada, Inc.
to operate its new 1.5 million square foot distribution centre in
Coteau-du-Lac Quebec. Located 45 minutes outside Montreal, in the county of
Vaudreuil-Soulanges, the new distribution centre will become fully operational
in early 2009 to support Canadian Tire Retail's continued growth and expansion
in Eastern Canada.
With construction of the new facility well underway, testing of the
information technology and state-of-the-art material handling systems will
commence in the fall of 2008. The 1.5 million square foot facility is expected
to be fully operational in early 2009. Once complete, the facility will be
capable of processing both bulk and conveyable products and, depending on the
type of products deployed, will have a capacity to process up to 55 million
cubic feet of throughput per annum to supply Canadian Tire stores in Ontario,
Quebec and the Maritimes.
"Canadian Tire's long-standing relationship with GENCO started with the
operation of our returns facility and expanded to include our Calgary
Distribution Centre," said Patrick Sinnott, senior vice-president, Supply
Chain. "Recognized throughout North America for its material handling and
technology expertise, GENCO has 110 years of experience as a third-party
logistics provider. We are delighted that we are able to leverage GENCO's
solid experience and expand our contractual relationship to include the
operation of our new Eastern Distribution Centre."
"GENCO is very pleased and honored to be selected by Canadian Tire to
operate the distribution centre in Coteau-du-Lac," said Herb Shear, president
and chief executive officer of GENCO. "We look forward to our expanded
relationship with Canadian Tire and demonstrating our ability to deliver
initial and ongoing value. This distribution centre will be a source of pride
for the community and for all our teammates for years to come."
For Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited, this project represents a
substantial capital investment in the Coteau-du-Lac area and, within three
years, will create a need for 600 full-time and 300 part-time employees. GENCO
has begun and will continue to recruit for material handling, shipping,
receiving and material preparation positions to ensure it has the right team
in place to operate the new facility when it opens in the fall. Further
information on these positions can be found at genco.com/quebec.
