Canadian Tire's 'Promoting Healthy Lawns' campaign gives whole new meaning to the term 'green thumb'
Campaign offers customers the largest selection of eco-friendly lawn and garden products in the province and extensive customer and employee education programs TORONTO, April 22 /CNW/ - Canadian Tire announced today the launch of its Promoting Healthy Lawns campaign to help gardening enthusiasts create a lush, green lawn this spring. The 'Promoting Healthy Lawns' campaign comes at a time when Ontario introduces new pesticide legislation and customers are increasingly turning to natural solutions for lawn and garden problems. Healthy lawns have a number of benefits including decreasing pollution, generating oxygen, discouraging weeds and harmful infestations and creating a healthy play area for kids. Canadian Tire's Promoting Healthy Lawns campaign provides customers with innovative products and information to help them create and maintain healthy lawns to mitigate weed and pest infestations, as well as eco-friendly solutions should problems arise. "Canadian Tire understands the need to eliminate the improper use of cosmetic pesticides in Ontario and we welcome the Ontario government's move to ban the sale and use of certain pesticides," says Mike Arnett, president, Canadian Tire Retail. "We have been phasing out of cosmetic pesticides, focusing instead on offering customers a dominant assortment of eco-friendly solutions, as well as tips and techniques to help them create and maintain a healthy lawn the natural way. We anticipate that stores in Ontario will no longer be selling cosmetic pesticides by the end of the summer 2008." The Promoting Health Lawns campaign takes place at Canadian Tire stores across the country and online at www.canadiantire.ca throughout the spring and summer months. In addition to offering customers the largest selection of eco-friendly solutions, the program also includes extensive staff training and consumer education focused on responsible lawn and garden care. To help provide customers with relevant information, Canadian Tire has created online buying guides, in-store signage and is offering free gardening clinics in select stores in Ontario as well as providing everyday savings on lawn and garden products. Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (TSX: CTC.a, CTC), operates more than 1,160 general merchandise and apparel retail stores, gas stations and car washes in an inter-related network of businesses engaged in retail, financial services and petroleum.
