Quebecers reminded to recycle their used oil products
- 33 million litres of used oil recycled in Quebec since 1995, thanks to Quebec's Canadian Tire dealers MONTREAL, April 21 /CNW/ - On the eve of Earth Day, April 22, the Association des marchands Canadian Tire du Québec announced the outstanding results of its used oil recycling program to remind Quebec residents to continue to recycle its used oil and associated products. The Association des marchands Canadian Tire du Québec in partnership with the Quebec Environment Foundation (Fondation québécoise en environnement), pioneered the program which has prevented 33 million litres of used oil from making its way into Quebec's natural areas or landfill sites since its inception in 1995. This initiative is the only one of its kind in Quebec, as Canadian Tire is the only retail network that provides and pays for a completely independent and integrated environmental management program that recycles - free of charge - used oils returned by consumers and craftspeople. Furthermore, Canadian Tire employees receive extensive training for the recycling program. Since the inception of the program in the mid 90s, the Association has established a wide-scale integrated management program for all dangerous residues created in the day-to-day operations of automotive service centres. "We are very proud of what we've achieved," says Michel Séguin, associate dealer with the Sainte-Dorothée store and Environment Committee chairman for the Association des marchands Canadian Tire du Québec. "And we are pursuing our commitment to the environment by introducing new initiatives to collect even more oil filters, by placing collection bags next to in-store products and by recycling car antifreeze. We are also focused on increasing our communication efforts to ensure our customers are aware of the program and continue to return the empty containers to our stores."
