Canadian Tire takes the lead in offering only smoke alarms with 'hush' safety feature
Life-saving products include interconnected smoke alarms and dual smoke/carbon monoxide detectors TORONTO, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - In response to the recommendation made by the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs that Canadians use smoke alarms with the 'hush' feature, Canadian Tire announced today that moving forward it will only offer customers smoke alarms that have the innovative new safety feature. Smoke alarms without the 'hush' feature will be phased out of the fire prevention product assortment in 2008. The 'hush' button allows homeowners to silence nuisance alarms, typically caused by smoke from burnt food or excess steam, with a touch of a button deterring homeowners from removing batteries during a false alarm and risking their safety in the event of a real fire. "The safety of our customers is of paramount importance to Canadian Tire and as the country's leading retailer of fire safety products, we are able to take a leadership position and offer our customers only those fire safety products recommended by the Canadian Associate of Fire Chiefs," says Ed Johnston, vice president, home products. In addition to smoke alarms with the 'hush' feature, Canadian Tire also recently introduced two innovative fire safety products, the Interconnected Wireless Smoke Alarm and Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray. Interconnected Wireless Smoke Alarm - uses radio frequency technology to wirelessly connect multiple alarms so that when one alarm detects smoke on one floor, all alarms will sound simultaneously. Tundra Fire Extinguishing Spray - an innovative new spray for extinguishing fires. It is easy-to-use, biodegradable and cleans up easily with a damp cloth and is available exclusively at Canadian Tire. "Products with the 'hush' safety feature complement the wide variety of fire safety products currently available at Canadian Tire, such as fire extinguishers and sprays, escape ladders and fire safety chests to protect valuable documents," adds Johnston. "With October being Fire Safety Month, we encourage all families to take the time to create a fire escape plan and ensure fire prevention equipment is in good working condition." As a sponsor of the Fire Marshal's Public Safety Council and its Public Education Program, Canadian Tire has partnered with local fire departments across Canada to help raise awareness about fire prevention to educate Canadians about the importance of fire safety and provide them with valuable information and tips.
